Nobody stops you from paying a developer to fix it. Actually, that is 
the beauty of free software: you can always find a way to fix a bug, if 
it is truly important to you. I am sure you can contact knowledgeable 
developers at http://www.alsa-project.org/mailing-lists.php. Also, if 
you find more people interested, you can split the cost.

 From the age of the bug the only thing that can be concluded is that 
the importance of the bug divided by the amount of work required to fix 
it is not high enough for anyone to step up and fix it or pay someone to 
fix it. Yet. Be my hero. ;-)
