I'm with Robert- this seems like a design flaw to me.  I've got an
atheros wireless card, so every time the kernel is updated, I have to
hook up a switch and update linux-restricted over the wire.  For me,
it's not really that big of a deal, but I could never set my parents up
with Ubuntu if this type of behavior is to be expected from upgrades.
