[Bug 89770] USB ports work only after acpi=off but then WLAN crashes

Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 6.06.1 Live CD works fine except:
When USB devices are inserted into USB ports, no icon appears
on desktop and there is no way to access the USB device.
(The LED on the USB device only lights up and one can hear a
click from the CD player.)
(USB 1.1, 2.0, flashmemorysticks FAT, FAT 32 all the same)

"mknod /dev/sda b 8 0", "mount /dev/sda /media/myflashmemory"
does not cure the problem. The system will respond to the
mount command by "/dev/sda is not a block device" even though
"file" command considers /dev/sda a "special block device".

Only way to resolve problem seems to be to set:
boot option: acpi=off
However, setting this boot option, the system will no longer
recognize my WLAN card, though USB ports work with this
option.

I use Fujitsu Siemens Amilo L7311 laptop, hardware and BIOS as
it was delivered by the official retailer in Sweden last
summer.

Thanks for doing the hard work. ;-)

         Status: Needs Info
