I find the same problem:  the CDs are recognized perfectly, but the DVD are not read or mounted (burned by me or not). 
I use Samsung Writemaster CD/DVDW-SH-W162DTS00. 
This work properly in Windows 2000 or 2003 with the apropriated firmware.
