Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: linux-restricted-modules-generic
Since upgrading to Gutsy, ipw3945 connects to random (untrusted)
wireless networks. In Feisty, ipw3945 did nothing until NetworkManager
told it to... this is the desired behaviour. Now, my laptop will boot,
and by the time I log in (starting a NetworkManager client), I'm already
connected to my neighbour's unprotected network.
Once I'm connected to the wrong network, NetworkManager has *all* kinds
of problems connecting to the correct network. I fought with my laptop
for a good half-hour last night to get it on my network... this is
obviously unacceptable.
Oh, and I'm using a Dell Inspiron.
This is kind of a security issue, too, since a new user might think that
they're safe to send e-mail passwords over their WPA-protected network,
when in fact they're transmitting them in the clear to their neighbour
(and any wardrivers that happen to be around)... I won't mark it as such
for now; what do others think?
