I had a similar problem, that has been solved: Ext Amplifier can remain
unmuted, but line jack sense AND headphone jack sense need to be both
turned off.

However, what is odd is that in Edgy sound worked fine (that is under
the 2.6.17 kernel), however it did not work fine under Feisty (both the
2.6.19 and the 2.6.20 kernel). So I'm guessing there is nonetheless some
bug in the module.
