Ok... gathering it all together:
Still it's a problem in 2.6.17-10-generic. After changing to edgy, I can't burn even normal CDs. Recompiling packaged from feisty doesn't help (didn't think it will - problem is in both cds and dvds now).
This bug may be for the same reason, but I just didn't think before that https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cdrtools/+bug/48504 could be connected. There is https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dvdrtools/+bug/46966 reported, but it's probably the same reason and cdrecord works good.

Once more - to reduce number of reports that started half a year ago
(more for some) - devs - please respond what info you need to identify
where is the problem. Now bug's confirmed both in dvdrtools and kernel,
but I can report the same for cds with edgy. Is someone taking over this
bug?

>From first test (2.6.15 vs. 2.6.12) it looks like kernel issue not
whatever-record-tools.

(Sorry if that sounded harsh - I just would like to report more specific
info to the *right* people and see any results :/ - now it just looks
like unknown issue spread over >3 packages)
