[Bug 83681] ext3 made readonly due to IO timeouts

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.15-27-server

Ubuntu Dapper Server running as VMware guest.

IO issues at the ESX level (will be attached shortly) cause the guest OS
to fail to write to the ext3 journal and puts the filesystem into
readonly mode.

This appears to have been addressed for RHEL but I could find nothing
for Debian/Ubuntu:
