You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: samba

after installing Dapper build 7 as a dual-boot with XPPro, I mounted my
ntfs partition (same hd, ntfs on sda2). Without rebooting, I checked
the mount point to see if it was there. It was, and I browsed to my
music folder. Unfortunately, totem gave the message "does not contain a
valid music data stream" or some such. So, I unmounted the partition
and tried to remount it. When I browsed again, no files or file folders
existed at the mount point. I later rebooted, tried again, but no files
appeared. I then tried to boot to windows, but it gave me the message
"cannot find hal.dll on C:/windows/system32" use of chkdsk from the XP
cd recovery console told me my ntfs had at least one irrecoverable
error. If you can't tell, I'm a bit of a noob, so if there are any log
files I should include, please tell me.

any information on ways to recover my ntfs partitition would also be
welcome.

Dylan Evans
