You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In the past when I have used other versions of Linux that were Debian based I was able to use the ACPI=OFF switch with out a problem. When I try this with either Ubuntu 5.1 or Ubuntu 6.06 on my Compaq I recieve an error message:
153.877829 Kernel Panic no syncing: VFS Unable to mount root FS on unknown block (8,1)
153.877888 (It FREEZES here)

Or if I try ACPI=OFF NOAPIC then I get the same error message except the numbers are:
66.830539 Kernel Panic no syncing: VFS Unable to mount root FS on unknown block (8,1)
66.830601 (It FREEZES here)

I am able to run it fine on my Compaq laptop, but my primary machine,
and the one I wasnt to use it on is the Presario which has 768 mb ram,
Celeron 2.8 gHz and 2 hard drives. Any help is greatly appreciated.

** Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
     Assignee: Philip Paquette
         Status: Needs Info
