This problem still exists in VMWare Workstation 5.5.2.  VMWare expects
usbfs to be mounted somewhere, although the mountpoint is configurable.
And really, why shouldn't they expect it to be mounted?  I spent a good
hour trying to figure this one out and when I found that usbfs wasn't
mounted I was pretty surprised.  It's like not having /proc.
