Public bug reported:

For some reason, my laptop randomly fails. Symptoms: exactly as if I had a power
shortage. The screen/harddrive/fans/leds all poweroff in a fraction of second. I
need to press the power button and the laptop comes back up booting as if
everything was normal.

I have not found any patterns to justify this. I have checked for:
* heat
* uptime
* load
* USB load
* sound usage
* peripherals such as removable CDRW drive (it's actually almost never plugged in)
* network devices (with a wired card, a wireless card, or none of the two)

Since this is sudden, I think the kernel does not log anything to provide
information on this problem.

It seems I am not the only one with this issue, but I cannot provide more
examples yet. This is on a Dell Inspiron 5000 running Hoary.

** Affects: linux-source-2.6.12 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Medium
     Assignee: Ubuntu Laptop Team
         Status: Confirmed
