I experience the same when inserting an USB-memory stick or CF-card in my card-reader. The modprobe -ehci_hcd thing works so I blacklisted the module ... -- usb change between 2.6.15-23 and 2.6.15-26 breaks working setup https://launchpad.net/bugs/54419
