[Bug 49281] machine freezes when playing 3d demos

steps to reproduce:

get the source from

http://www.linuxdemos.org/demo/indigo

or

http://exhouse.untergrund.net/warez/demos/portse/traction/indigo/indigo_by_traction_src.zip

unpack, make clean, make and run ./indigo

after about 5 to 30 seconds, the machine freezes. this happens with all
sdl based demos i tried so far, and i have no clue how to debug this, so
somebody else might take this on. it seems to be kernel related.
