I think I've found the commit that actually fixes this. The patches and
bug reports were leading me to believe this was a bug entirely in the
ahci driver, but in fact, it's a combination of that and the IDE layer.

I've cherry-picked some patches out of 2.6.18 that should resolve the
problem. I'm upload kernel source today, which should build by the end
of the day, and there should be new daily ISO's tomorrow with this
kernel on it.
