The USB PTP methode was exactly the way I used to connect my Sony dsc-w5 to my computer -via digiKam. BTW both ways USB Storage and PTP worked fine. -- kernel doesn´t support Sony dsc-w5 anymore https://launchpad.net/bugs/53813
