Recent upgraded kernels on my system lock at boot time displaying a
black screen. This is still happening in Dapper with Ubuntu kernel
2.6.15-26-amd64-generic. The black screen reboots with a ctl-alt-delete,
but otherwise I can't get it to do anything with a recent kernel. My
system has been upgraded in place since Warty amd64.
The problem first happened between 2.6.15-23-amd64-generic and
2.6.15-24-amd64-generic, and my system still boots normally if I select that kernel2.6.15-23-amd64-generic in grub. I seem to remember some warnings about not finding the root device, but I can't duplicate those now.
Let me know if there is anything helpful I can do to help diagnose the
problem. Obviously my machine is still usable, but it's inconvenient to
have to pick out the old kernel version whenever I reboot.
