This is the version I've been running and it hasn't solved the problem.

Seconded - this also stopped my hang-up problem.  I very rarely use the
VoIP part of Skype anyway, so this has neatly worked around my
particular problem.  However, I'll try running Skype through strace as
outlined above, turn audio notifications back on and see if I can come
up with something useful.  It would be nice to get this little niggle
fixed.
