I'm using kernel 2.5.15-27-686 with smp with my Compaq nx7400 (Intel Centrino Core Duo) and I get the same problem. In my particular case every time i disconnect the AC adapter the battery stops updating. -- ACPI-battery monitoring stops working after some time https://launchpad.net/bugs/47561
