Here's the log file, however, it's from after vesa was active. I'll go
back and get one from before I activate vesa and post later today.

Your statements seem essentially correct. The one thing I'm not certain
of is whether it's defaulting to an external monitor. I tried hooking up
a hi-def TV/LCD monitor to my vid out when the nosplash option was on.
It did behave like it was getting a signal, but a bad signal. It said
something like display signal incompatible with display mode, please
reset input. Sort of like it was getting something, but didn't know how
to handle it. And I'm also not sure that means much, because usually my
VGA out seems to mirror my desktop screen no matter what while I'm under
linux.
