Public bug reported:

After a certain point, a USB hard drive is not detected and/or mounted.

I can plug it in and read/write to the drive okay, but sometimes I after
I unplug it, it is no longer readable.

If I perform tail -f /var/log/messages and tail -f /var/log/kern.log
while plugging the drive in, there is no output at all. No output in
dmesg either.

A USB flash drive I have works fine, and outputs information on
/var/log/messages and /var/log/kern.log.

Output of uname -a:
Linux mobile-monkey 2.6.15-23-386 #1 PREEMPT Tue May 23 13:49:40 UTC 2006 i686 GNU/Linux

I get the same results on a different machine that has Breezy installed.

The drive always works okay on a Windows machine.

I have had this happen twice now. When I connected it to a windows
machine and ran scandisk on it, the Linux systems picked up on it again
afterwards. I tried it again just now and it did not work.

The device in question is an iAudio X5 20GB USB MP3 player.

Any ideas?

** Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)
