Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.15-23-amd64-server
On a x86_64 Dell 2850, running 'modprobe ipmi_si' hangs, with the
following output in dmesg:
[ 3845.880800] IPMI System Interface driver.
[ 3845.880851] ipmi_si: Trying "kcs" at I/O port 0xca2
[ 3845.935132] ipmi_si: Trying "smic" at I/O port 0xca9
[ 3845.975059] ipmi_si: Trying "bt" at I/O port 0xe4
... after a while ...
[ 4345.308627] BT: timed out in B2H_WAIT [ ]
[ 4345.308635] restart command
modprobe never returns and can't be killed
>From dmidecode:
IPMI Device Information
Interface Type: KCS (Keyboard Control Style)
Specification Version: 1.5
I2C Slave Address: 0x10
NV Storage Device: Not Present
Base Address: 0x0000000000000CA8 (I/O)
Register Spacing: 32-bit Boundaries
When specifying parameters to the module, it doesn't hang but still
fails:
# modprobe ipmi_si trydefaults=0 type=kcs addrs=0xCA8 slave_addrs=0x10
FATAL: Error inserting ipmi_si (/lib/modules/2.6.15-23-amd64-server/kernel/drivers/char/ipmi/ipmi_si.ko): No such device
dmesg in this case:
[ 3862.861365] ipmi_si: Trying "kcs" at memory address 0xca8
[ 3862.861400] Could not set up I/O space
On the same machine, ipmi worked using a manually compiled 2.6.16.x
kernel (under debian testing), so the hardware is probably fine.
** Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)
Severity: Normal
Priority: (none set)
Status: Unconfirmed
