I suppose I ran into the same bug with my Thinkpad A31. I made a dist-upgrade from Breezy to Dapper. Since then I get randomly (although I think it happens at the very moment, when I switch from one programm window to another via a click on the panel) a complete system freeze. Nothings working anymore.
After rebooting (pressing power button helped to "shut down") the /var/log/kern.log shows allways the following information, with the exact timestamp of the crash:

ACPI-0284: *** Error: Region EmbeddedControl(3) has no handler
ACPI-0517: *** Error: Method parse/execution failed [...]
ACPI-0158: *** Error: Method execution failed [...]

These ACPI-Error numbers keep repeating with different textlines behind.
I'll try to attach the detailled log information.

I now stopped /etc/init.d/acpid and /etc/init.d/acpi-support and didn't
have any problems since then.
