Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.15

I built a kernel-image package with the following setting (via make
menuconfig):

"Local version - append to kernel release" = "-mark1"

The resulting package was called kernel-
image-2.6.15.7-ubuntu1_10.00.Custom_i386.deb

When I tried to install the package, I got an error that

/lib/modules/2.6.15.7-ubuntu1

did not exist.

I checked, and the folder /lib/modules/2.6.15.7-ubuntu1-mark1 existed
instead.

There appears to be a problem in how the kernel version string is being
managed and there is a discrepency in how this is handled.

After removing the package, the modules folder suffixed with mark1 was
removed even though the removal process results in the message: "Cannot
delete version 2.6.15.7-ubuntu1: Not created by this utility."

** Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)
       Severity: Normal
       Priority: (none set)
         Status: Unconfirmed
