Public bug reported:
The b44 network driver appears to be broken in recent kernels. If the
driver is loaded, there are the expected messages in dmesg:
b44.c:v0.97 (Nov 30, 2005)
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:02:01.0[A] -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 177
eth0: Broadcom 4400 10/100BaseT Ethernet 00:11:43:7b:69:ae
But eth0 is never initialised:
# ifconfig eth0
eth0: error fetching interface information: Device not found
The driver works in the 2.6.12-10-686 kernel from Breezy, but not with Dapper's 2.6.15 kernels or with a vanilla 2.6.16.18.
I looks like an upstream kernel bug, but I thought I should report it here in case it's working for others...
** Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)
Severity: Normal
Priority: (none set)
Status: Unconfirmed
