Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.15

When booting with any of the 2.6.15 kernels, the process stops at the
point that says "Loading hardware drivers" after three minutes the
process times out and reports failed. This is similar to the behaviour
reported in bug 32597 but it never fails to actually boot.

dmesg is full (completely full) of messages that say:
eth1: hfa384x_get_rid - RID len mismatch: rid=0xfd51, len=2 (expected 6)

Network manager reports no network devices found.

iwconfig and ifconfig do see eth1 and the modules (orinocco,
orinocco_cs, hermes) are all loaded. The card does not associate with
any APs.

This bug did not occur under breezy and does not occur if I choose a
2.6.12 kernel from the GRUB menu.

** Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)
       Severity: Normal
       Priority: (none set)
         Status: Unconfirmed
