Looks like I have the same here on an Thinkpad R51, Would Hard crash when getting to gdm login screen on boot. I have removed the irda-utils package and it boots fine now but I get the same Irda kernel errors as above. -- irda oops at boot https://launchpad.net/bugs/45683
