Using 2.6.15-23-386 kernel, there's no longer the "Asus ACPI: Error reading LCD status" in dmesg, but the splash screen still comes up frequently. I also didn't get this bug when using Kanotix or other KDE distros. -- Little acpi event windows pop up in KDE https://launchpad.net/bugs/17125
