By changing to vesa I noticed a kernel dump which indicates a problem
with irda. When I started /etc/init.d/irda-utils manually in single user
mode, the system crashed again about one second after running the
command.
** Attachment added: "kernel_trace of irda problem"

** Summary changed:
- linux-image-2.6.15-23-686 freezes gdm
+ linux-image-2.6.15-23-686 freezes when using irda
** Description changed:

- I am sorry guys, bad news: this last update freezes at the gdm login screen. The screen is showing correctly, but any input devices are dead (mouse, keyboard, both usb and integrated). I tried several times with 2.6.15-22 and 2.6.15-23 and the former works perfectly, the latter hangs.
- One time I was able to enter a few characters for the user name before it hung, but I guess I was just lucky to hit a timeframe just before the freeze.

- My machine is a Dell Latitude D505 with the i810 driver on a

+ I am sorry guys, bad news: this last update freezes when starting irda.
