[Bug 45161] Kernel Panic on Boot

I am getting a kernel panic on booting the AMD64 kernel in Ubuntu. The
kernels affected are 2.6.15-22-amd64-k8 and 2.6.15-22-amd64-generic.

when booting in recovery mode, the error reads
kernel panic- not syncing: Aiee, killing interrupt handler
