[Bug 40455] Sound chip not detected (Realtek ALC850)

I've got an Asrock 939Dual-SATA2 motherboard, which has a Realtek ALC850 AC97 sound chip on board. This chip is not detected at all by Dapper on AMD64, and only the MIDI playback is detected (as "MPU-401 UART") on i386.

Realtek offer audio drivers for this chip on there website, but these
just contain source code from www.alsa-project.org! Also, a bit of
Googling has revealed that this chip should be supported with the module
"snd-intel8x0". I'm not quite sure how to test whether this works with
my mobo though -- I tried just "sudo modprobe snd-intel8x0", which
didn't give me any errors, but didn't seem do detect the soundcard
either. Would I have to do some extra ALSA config stuff too?

Below is the output of lspci for Dapper running on x86. Is it possible
that the sound card is one of the "unknown devices"?
