Jeff, I'm afraid you have bug 6367, which will not be fixed before
dapper because we don't have time to test the impact of the fix on
others.

There is a suggested fix in that bug, boot by adjusting the root= line,
and then if the change was permanent just change hda in
/etc/boot/grub.list and /etc/fstab to hde -- if the change happens
depending on exterior forces (e.g. docking station) use UUID= lines
