Perhaps I should just go with a vanilla kernel, as suggested here:
http://individual.utoronto.ca/jaelle_kitty/inspiron6400/. I'll probably
need the multi-core scheduler support that doesn't seem to be in 2.6.15.

If I do, though, will I still be able to do things like the Kubuntu
splash screen? I know it's not a *big* deal compared to SMP, but it's
nice.
