Public bug reported:

Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)
       Severity: Normal
       Priority: (none set)
         Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.15-22-686

Since updating the kernel my laptop (ThinkPad T42) will not hibernate any more. Chosing "Hibernate" from g-p-m or manually running /etc/acpi/hibernate.sh results in blank screen and solid hard drive activity light. Not sure if hard drive is actually spinning or not - fan is a lot louder than HD. Computer never hibernates, have to pull the battery to get out of this state.
After some simple logging I can tell that it goes fine through all scripts in /etc/acpi/suspend.d/ and dies after 'echo -n "disk" >/sys/power/state' After that logging becomes kinda hard..
If I reboot back to 2.6.15-21-686, everything works fine again so I am 99% sure it is a kernel.

Also - and I am not totally convinced it is related but it very well
could be: g-p-m does not register lid close with new kernel. I close the
lid and nothing happens. g-p-m is set to hibernate when I do that.
Again, rebooting to 2.6.15-21-686 brings lid events back...
