[Bug 43877] sym53c8xx module has undefined symbols

Dapper Drake:

When loading the 2.6.15-22.34 kernel module sym53c8xx the following
symbols are undefined:

spi_display_xfer_agreement
spi_release_transport
spi_attach_transport
spi_dv

This causes my boot to fail as one of my root LVM physical volumes is hung off that model of adapter.  The last version of linux-image-2.6.15 that worked was .20 so the bug was probably introduced earlier than .22-34; however, I haven't confirmed the same symptons in all the intermediate versions.

Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'linux-image-2.6'; however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.
