In the pre-May Dapper releases everything worked. After the May updates
things stopped working. However, in the update of yesterday, things were
working again. Unfortunately after today's update, it doesn't work anymore.

Since today's updates didn't include ACPI (I think) but was mostly Xorg
stuff, I'm beginning to think the problem is within the xorg drivers. Is
that possible?

I'd rule out the hardware problem since after shutting down the computer
the battery charges normally and in Windows (sic) things also work as
they should.
