I just had the opportunity to use my CD writer today (to burn Flight7). At first, with my SCSI scanner powered off (as it is always by default, to save power), the CD writer was detected, but later in the boot process, I got the dreaded "Dumping card State" stuff, and it hung there (not hard locked though, I could reboot using the keyboard)
Then I powered up the scanner, rebooted, and somehow all was well: CD writer was detected properly, no error messages during the boot sequence, and no problem at all when burning the ISO wih Nautilus.
I don't quite see why the scanner, obviously external, would interfere with the CD writer which is internal (I thought the internal and external buses were electronically distinct), but I am sick of recurrent problems with this SCSI driver over each and every distro release, so if all I have to do to get the writer to work, is to think of powering up the scanner, then I will be more happy to vote in favour of closing this bug...
