I have the same issue, but not on a NetVista. I have tried adding noapic acpi=off to my kernel boot conf but it doesn't help, and with noapic nolapic the kernel doesn't boot. Any ideas as to how to solve it are welcome... -- hang on an IBM NetVista PC https://launchpad.net/bugs/35993
