OK my previous comment (regarding kernel versions) was wrong..... I had mounted the wrong/i386 cdimage by mistake.

I can confirm that the kernel from 'Xubuntu 6.02beta2 PPC install' does not work either.... fails with the same 'can not allocate device-tree chuck'.
