Public bug reported:
Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)
Severity: Normal
Priority: (none set)
Status: Unconfirmed
Description:
After booting from the Kubuntu "Dapper Drake" Flight-2 Install CD (AMD64), the
system freezes. The bootstrapper loads vmlinuz and initrd.gz properly, and the
kernel boots. The last message displayed is "io scheduler cfq registered". The
CD spins down (and is not locked), the HDD shows no activity (not surprising as
it's using a ramdisk), and the console does not echo what is typed (nor responds
to any control sequences, incl. Ctrl-Alt-Del--so it hasn't even loaded init yet).
The CD was burned by cdrecord-2.01 (win32/cygwin) at 16x speed. The process
completed with no errors and a minimum buffer fill of 84% (avg. 98%). The MD5
sum of the image I used matches that of the image on the website. This is,
however, the first time I've used this drive to burn a CD-R (new computer).
This is a notebook computer; the CPU is an "AMD Turion(tm) 64 Mobile Technology
ML-28", Family 15, Model 36, Stepping 2; there are 896 MB of DDR-SDRAM memory;
the primary (and only) HDD is 60.0 GB in size.
There are two operating systems on the machine, the latter of which is what I'm
intending to replace:
Windows XP Professional (x86) w/ SP2 (across 2 partitions, one NTFS and a FAT16
for the page file)
Slackware 10.2 (x86), using kernel 2.4.31 (across 2 partitions, ext3 root and
swap space)
I have booted KNOPPIX 4.0.2 (again x86, kernel 2.6.1x something) w/o
problems.
