This is correct. But in this case, counter to the logic you outlined (and which I agree with), I get the error when wifi is "enabled" via the switch, but not when I "disable" it. This seems to be a reversal of logic somehow via the hardware or software.

I don't suppose there's a way to see what the state of the switch from /proc somewhere?
