Public bug reported:

Affects: debian-installer (upstream)
       Severity: Unknown
       Priority: Unknown
         Status: Unknown
Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)
       Severity: Major
       Priority: (none set)
         Status: Needs Info

Description:
Trying to install Ubuntu 5.10:
With a brand new 200GB disk, creating the file system (doesn't matter which file system) always make the installer hang.
Cannot even switch to a console or toggle caps lock LED.
I have successfully installed both XP and Debian stable (3.2) on the disk, however Debian testing has the same problem!
Something must have changed in the partitioner part of the installer that breaks it.
I'm using a brand new Maxtor DiamondMax10 disk, Intel Celeron 2200 MHz, ASUS Digimatrix motherboard.
