Mine does the same thing (and did so under Breezy).  It seems to happen
more often (although I think i've seen it do it on its own) when the
interface is in promiscuous mode, for example when using Airsnort or
similar utilities.  My laptop uses an Intersil Corporation Prism 2.5
Wavelan chipset, with the orinoco_pci / hermes driver.  It's happened
with a variety of different kernels.  I doubt the problem is specific to
Ubuntu though.
