Yes! It is now working. 

A quick glance through the logs shows that there are now [resume] Radeon events in Xorg.0.log which were not there before. 

I am using Gnome Power Manager and have it set to sleep on lid close. In order to resume, I need to touch the power button, as it does not simply resume on lid open.
