Public bug reported:
Affects: linux-meta linux (Ubuntu)
Severity: Normal
Priority: (none set)
Status: Unconfirmed
Description:
I am using an AMD Sempron64 with an nVidia nForce4 CK804 chipset. When
I boot the above kernel (with the bootsplash disabled), I the system
hangs. Below is an extract from the console output. The 2.6.12-9 386
kernel from breezy works, but all dapper ones I have tried do not. I
tried compiling vanilla 2.6.12, 2.6.15 and 2.6.16 kernels from
kernel.org, each with an almost identical minimal configuration. 2.6.12
did not exhibit the problem but the other two did. Some google searches
indicate that the problem is not Ubuntu-specific and may be related to
ACPI. If I set "ide=nodma" in the kernel command line, I can boot
successfully, but some modules (e.g. forcedeth nVidia ethernet) fail.
If I set "acpi=off", boot is successful, but the mouse does not work.
