I confirm that here under Kubuntu Dapper Flight 5 up-to-date.

I wanted to set it on my DVD burner/reader, as it had not been activated on install (as it should, other bug report ? or connected ?).

/dev/hdc:
 setting using_dma to 1 (on)
 HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
 using_dma    =  0 (off)
