Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33243

Affects: linux-meta linux (Ubuntu)
       Severity: Normal
       Priority: (none set)
         Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
On an Ubuntu Breezy (actually Kubuntu) Athlon system, I find a
/lib/modules/<kernel version>/volatile directory filled with modules mounted on tmpfs (and thus using a lot of memory resources).

No-one on the breezy forums seems to know where this comes from and what
it it for.

Thinking that it might be something coming from the Debian base, I have
tried also to ask on the Debian devel mailing lists (please see thread
on http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/02/msg01061.html), but they
seem to be quite sure that it is not a Debian thing and they suggest
that it is a bug in Ubuntu. Under this premises I am reporting it here.

Actually, I do not have a clue about the package responsible for the
creation of /lib/modules/<kernel version>/volatile, but I suspect that
it is something related to the kernel initrd.

Thanks,

Sergio Callegari
