Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kernel-image-2.6.15-25-386-di

When using VMWare on Dapper, network throughput from the host to the
guest OS is really slow. No problem with other remote hosts to/from the
guest OS. This is a bug with the Linux kernel, and apparently coming and
going with different versions, as detailed on this thread:

http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?messageID=408893

As suggested on this thread, the problem is fixed (at least for me), by
issuing the command:

# sudo ethtool -K eth0 tso off

which turns off TCP segmentation offloading. Maybe someone might want to
fix this is the kernel source?

Thanks,

Donald.

Just in case, here's the info on my ethernet card (although this bug seems to affect other cards too):
