I have a Linksys Wireless - G PCI adapter in my linux server with ubuntu
dapper and kernel version 2.6.15-23-server. The driver module used seems
to be "rt61". I also had the same problem with the system locking down
after doing for example "iwlist ra0 scan" or any other operation using
the card. And although iwconfig showed the card as ra0, executing
"ifconfig ra0" just said the device doesn't exist.

After reading this thread I tried to add "irqpoll" to the kernel
parameters and it worked like a charm. Thanks!

So for me, no other tricks than "irqpoll" we're necessary. Although I'm
not using X windows in my server.
