[Bug 42305] Dapper beta: grey/white screen after boot: prompt

Using either Dapper beta 1 or 2 halts the boot process on my G4 after
the boot: prompt and a white/grey screen appears  that locks up the boot
process.

This happens with the beta 1 textual install cd and the beta 2 live cd.
I did a dist-upgrade using the beta 1 cd on my clean install of breezy
and it updated fine, i was able to see the changes with dapper and
interact with the system. After logging out and back in again i could do
the same, but had the attendant warnings that i should reboot. Upon
reboot, i get the grey screen again after the boot: prompt.

I'm guessing this has something to do with the nvidia drivers. Below is
some info about this machine. If i can provide any other information,
i'll do my best.
